Dedicated to model railways. Mostly O gauge 3 rail and built from scratch at low cost, with basic tools and materials. My interest is in historic locomotives and other rail vehicles with particular emphasis on the various milestones and dead ends which lead to where we are today.
Restoring a French O Gauge 2-2-0 Loco made by Louis Roussy
It is believed that Louis Roussy founded LR in the 1920's. 'LR' are the initials of Louis Roussy, and also of the 'O' gauge trains he named 'Le Rapide'. More like HO in size, but run on O gauge track.

O Gauge Model of the 1855 L'Aigle French Steam Locomotive
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.3 года назад
L'Aigle (The Eagle) was built in 1855 in France for the L'Ouest railway, as a high speed competitor to the successful Crampton locomotive. L'Aigle proved to be slow and underpowered, but its massive drive wheels and dramatic appearance ensure it a place in railway history.
Cab Forward Loco - O Gauge Classic Period Concept
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.4 года назад
A Cab forward O gauge locomotive made from 1930's American Flyer locomotive and Vandy tender. Just another whimsical idea! Cab forward design had the advantages of better visibility and avoided noxious fumes in the cab. The typical set up was oil fired with the fuel being pumped from the tender to the loco firebox

Calthrop - the Original Streamlined Loco from 1865 - Unique Working Model
Просмотров 8745 лет назад
The Rev. Dr. Samuel R. Calthrop was a Unitarian minister and amateur scientist born in Lincolnshire, England who moved to the United States in 1851. In 1865, while living in Roxbury, Massachusetts, he took out a patent for an "air-resisting train" capable of high speeds. This train was to be completely covered in a streamlined casing, which would be supplemented by diaphragms connecting the coa...

A three rail O gauge loco using wheels on all three rails. No known prototype or model exists. More of a dieselpunk concept just to see if it is possible.
Mystery Hungarian O Gauge Rail Car

This model was made around 1960, for 3 rail operation on 0 gauge track. The prototype for the model was an experimental ERC, the Cavill-425. Only two examples were built by Ganz in 1955 and tested by MÁV for some years, but abandoned.
French Railcar O Gauge Model

Purchased from eBay France. Most likely a "one off" model. 3 rail O gauge operation. From the wiring, motor and machine screws looks to be made in the 1950's. Represents a 1930's or 1940's French railcar possibly Bugatti, or De Dion Boulton.
Custom Streamliner

This is a fantasy loco in 3 Rail O gauge. using an MTH chassis. This is a toned down version of The Blue Angel which I built a few years ago. The idea was to capture the essence of the sometimes odd and over the top steam streamliner locos of the 1930's
Class 38 Loco Model by O Gauge House (OGH)
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.7 лет назад
This is a restoration of a Class 38 loco streamliner. It is an O Gauge House (OGH) made in around 1950. It was supplied in kit form. OGH is one of many Australian model train manufacturers of this time period. The post war period made material and parts very hard to find. For example, a Bosch electric motor designed for automobile windshield wipers was commonly used at the time.

Lionel #42 Standard Gauge Loco and Coaches
This model looks glorious, as well as French L'Aigle. I didn't expect to see a model of Soviet steam locomotive. Would you make a model of P 36 - the last Soviet mainline passenger steam locomotive. Or, maybe, a British GNR Stirling 4-2-2 steam locomotive (built from 1870 till 1895)?
Thanks! The Stirling Single was the first model I built. ruclips.net/video/TF3PI4caBkg/видео.html I am now in a retirement community and not able to build anymore, but I had a good run and enjoyed every moment in my old workshop.
@@DavidArgent thanks. Your model of Stirling engine also looks nice. Sadly, you're not build train models by anymore.
SHOEEE...DOGGY!
That`s a Spicy Meat Ball.
OUTSTANDING craftmanship indeed.
Honestly though, I'm getting into tin and brass trains more now and I would actually pay for the body and tender to build my own if you made a copy. :D
super resultat
Could you do this with a 3 d printer?
I would guess the plastic near the smoker would melt.
The Soviet Lionel!
Calthrop was a Harvard man, and apparently got his inspiration from the shape of a streamlined crew shell hull. Keep in mind that the actual likely 'consist' illustrated in the patent drawing is abbreviated to fit -- while the tender would be 'contemporarily' short, the cars would have been at least coach length for the period -- and there would have been more than one, a bit like an early version of the original Milwaukee Hiawatha. Now you need to do the Adams Windsplitter, with its special features to minimize dust in its pre-air-conditioning era...

David, when and where did you get the monorail set? I thought that no manufacturer in North America made those, except as toys one can get at Disneyland or Walt Disney World.
I made it myself, including track, from scratch.
@@DavidArgent, that's amazing work that you did, then; I take my hat off to you. How did you get access to a Moskobel Pioneer train set? I thought that those were hard to get out of Russia.
Makes me wonder how much trouble one would've had to go to to get one of these back in the day. Wouldn't surprise me if you had to be some Politburo's nephew or something....
Holy crap man that look incredible. You should sell these designs!
Amazing creating from scratch 😮🎉🎉🎉🎉

amazing to see this model! thanx a lot Mr Argent !
The trains start their journey racing out of Union Station! The interlocking tower operator pulls the levers to steer each train to its proper main line.
At last I realise why people still use 3 rail systems! Very impressed.
Just simply wonderful. Such character. Thanks for sharing.
What a great modeler you are. My nephews & I have been watching your videos & we are all in awe.
Amazing! You're a master at your craft, sir. How wonderful to see these put to good use... What a tragedy it would have been if some mother or father had scrapped these parts instead of tucking them away, so they could come to you & find new life! Bravo, sir. (Love the Pixies music, too!)
This is the coolest thing ever!! I saw a Fulgurex model of this in 1 gauge (ginormous & incredibly expensive) but I didn't know the name of the loco or why the valve gears looked so weird... After some searching on Google I figured out the name & found the Wikipedia page for the loco, then looking for a working example on RUclips, I found your video (there was a 20 second clip of this loco from an old black & white movie but you could barely see the loco itself, if mainly showed the cars). I appreciate your video so much, it helps to see the Cosart valve gear working. I'm absolutely amazed that you were able to make this. My nephews & I model in O gauge & have a half dozen MTH foreign trains (a Nord, a couple KBays, one in green & one in blue, a BR44, an SNCF Argentan & one other that I can't remember off the top of my head). I love your track setup & will search for more of your videos. Thanks so much, I'm sending links of this to my nephews!
This seems like vintage heaven. 😁

Awesome trains but I don't know are they custom or official model trains?
Un nouveau modèle de style vintage brillant.
A great result (the locomotive as well as the video) again! You mention H0, generally Le Rapide trains are considered to be S (1:64) size running on 0 Gauge track; anyway these are toys and not models. Regards Fred
Always enjoy your projects.
Great job you did there
Can’t wait to check out some of your other videos! All the best and good luck with growing your channel. Did you ever think of using PromoSM!?? It’s a handy tool to help you grow your RUclips following!!

Where did you get the driving wheels from?
About 10 years ago an impulse buy on eBay. They sat in my parts bin waiting for a project and the rest, as they say, is history!
Lol. I have been planning on making my own locomotives, my dad is a sheet metal worker and sometimes he brings home some 26 gauge scrap galvanized steel sheets that I use for my engines, it’s a little harder to work with than brass, but it’s a lot sturdier.
Impressive collection, thanks for sharing
I like this
Well done! 👏😏
David, you are a true inspiration.
Hi David, the buffers on your the 2nd croco look like Herkules parts too. Do the wheels look like these ones -> photos.app.goo.gl/RxFP3ppM85uLTT199 This is a photo from one of my 2 Herkules Locomotives - made by Egon Friedrich Polzer in Vienna from 1948-1952 or so. Herkules trains are VERY rare and usually crazy expensive! Even so the motors and since the wheels tend to fall apart, I made reproductions of the original wheels with my centrifugal casting equipment. I've posted a video of the one of my Herkules locos in my channel.
The wheels are the same and have "Hercules" name molded into the counterweight. The middle axle wheels are rimless. This loco is very heavy and I have not seen another one like it. It could be a pre production piece made by Mr. Polzer. Your Herkules loco looks similar to my Loma loco from the same time period.
@@DavidArgent I have some doubt that the crokodile is a Herkules pre production model, as they all used one and the same motor concept - like your Löma has. We call it "Wehrmachtsmotor". They never used any worm drive systems, at least to what I know. And yes, the Herkules and the Löma C locomotives are similar as they all are "kinda like" models of the German/Austrian E18 or E19 locomotive which was very popular right after WW2. The main difference between the Löma and the Herkules is that the Herkules is litographed and you can open the doors for example. Plus Polzer used Märklin pantographs and couplers for his models. Also, the herkules loco has 6!!! lamps which is a lot for a loco like this. :) Greetings from Vienna, Alex
Hello David, I hope you are fit and well. I have found the box of streamline C38 parts if you want to get in touch. Martin
I should try and take up model train building, make myself an HO scale model of this. :)
Why not! Give it a shot.
Very cool to watch and love all the different designs really enjoyed seeing it going around your track- Liked & Subscribed 👍😎
